Car trouble?

mercury Comet hiding in the bushes!

So a few weeks ago a neighbor had told me about how our local mechanic that we both go to had found a good stop leak type fluid to put in with the refrigerant in a cars air conditioning system. Since my car had been without A/C for almost a year I decided it was finally time to do something about it and gave my mechanic a call to see what he could do for me. Of course the stop leak additive did not fix my A/C and he said it was simply the receiver/drier which was bad but he couldn’t get the part for a few days and then he was off last week. So I take my cruiser back a second time to have this part put in and when I call to see how it’s going he says I’m going to have to bring it back the next day for a compressor as well! After replacing most if not all of the parts I have spent just over a thousand dollars BUT I do finally have ice cold air conditioning in my pt cruiser!

Unfortunately the Comet did decide to die on me when I had it out on Tuesday. Fortunately it was sitting in the parking lot at my mechanics. When I tried to fire it up to leave it did not want to start, it would crank fine but it didn’t even try to catch and eventually I ended up wearing the battery down. After a couple of minutes investigation my mechanic diagnosed that the alternator was the culprit and for a fee he could replace it for me so for another $100 I now have a brand new alternator in the Comet which watching the ammeter even just idling seems to be charging the battery much more effeciently than the previous one. Only time will tell if I will be able to leave the battery connected for more than a few days without the battery going dead on me again.
